A beautiful, natural outdoor track in the Presidio. Perfect for a scenic run or walk to catch up with a friend.
Set your navigation for Julius Kahn Playground, a super scenic public park and playground found in the Presidio. Finding a spot to park your car shouldn’t be a problem.
The outdoor track encircles the valley below Julius Kahn. As you approach the valley, you’ll be struck by just how stunning and secluded this outdoor space feels. It’s still a mystery to me how nobody knows about this outdoor oasis….It’s bordered by eucalyptus on one side and a view of the bay on the other. Pretty much the perfect balance between zen and city vibes.
The loop itself is a 3/4 mile dirt trail of cutbacks, wooden stairs, and various altitudes. It makes for a run that’s very scenic and diverse and I’ll take that over a track any day. I’ve attached an image that outlines the route, though, once you get there it’s pretty obvious.
My personal workout here is to run this loop 4 times with an enforced 2 minute break between each lap, and to try to break my overall time each workout. Depending upon your pace, this will be no big deal or absolutely wreck you. In other words, if you’re out of shape and take it slow you’ll be fine. If you’re a human killing machine do it fast and it will test you. Or just come with a friend and talk about your favorite TV shows over a nice walk. Or that.
There are plenty of trails that branch off of here through the Presidio if you’re more of a continuous / wanderer runner.
Want to branch out in search of caffeine? Walk ~10 min to As Quoted. They’ve got great light meals (like avocado toast) and several options for that sweet sweet caffeine that you crave.
They will e-mail you.
