Enjoy a scenic drive along the Peak to Peak Byway and take an easy hike at West Magnolia Trailhead for stunning fall colors and panoramic mountain views.

• Peak to Peak Byway: many start points based on how long & how far you want to travel, here’s what we opted for:

From Arvada, we traveled on 36 West through Boulder & to Lyons, took CO-7 west to the Peak to Peak Highway start point in Lyons, took CO-72 south towards Nederland to stop at the West Magnolia Recreation Area, and then continued on CO-72 east back towards Arvada: https://maps.app.goo.gl/cwS5PiZ3PuEc9og57?g_st=ic

• West Magnolia Recreation Area: many trail options based on what level, elevation gain, and distance you’d prefer, here’s what we opted for:

West Magnolia Observatory Trail which had a decent sized dirt parking area (make sure to drive past the initial parallel parking to get to this trailhead) and optional parallel parking as well. The trail was mainly flat with minimal elevation gain and had a mixture of close-up leaf surroundings + panoramic views of far away mountains: https://alltrails.com/parks/us/colorado/west-magnolia-recreation-area

💪 Pro tips
• EARLY BIRD GETS THE WORM! We left from Arvada around 6:30AM on a sunday, and though we did not experience much traffic, the trailhead parking was pretty popular when we arrived.
• RESEARCH LEAF PEEPING PEAK! We took this trip on 9/28/25
• MOUNTAIN TOWN EXPLORING! If you take the same path, you’ll travel through both Lyons & Nederland - mountain towns with coffee shops & restaurants.
