• It'll most likely be an early start from Seattle to get there on time. It's so worth it for the adventure!
• Don't wear your favorite outfit. You'll be pushing through branches/mud off-trail and will have more fun if you're not worried about snagging or dirtying your clothes
• Angela and the guides are so patient! Don't hesitate to ask any questions 
• I brought home sooo many mushrooms! You'll get great tips for cooking and preserving them while you're out there

Forage for mushrooms

This mushroom foraging excursion is hands down one of the coolest things

I have ever done and I'm so excited to share it.

You'll learn all about foraging and identifying mushrooms.

Head into the forest to find them in the wild and enjoy a hyper local lunch.

Savor the Wild is a food experience company owned by Angela. That's her.

Her business is all about sharing the beauty of

the Pacific Northwest with everyone which I really love.

Now about the foraging before anyone asks,

this is an exclusion for finding edible mushrooms that you'll want to put in pastas,

not the kind you'll be bringing to a festival. With that disclaimer out of the way,

You'll meet about two hours from Seattle,

then caravan off grid to where the good stuff is.

Angela and her guides pre-scout the location so they'll

know for sure you won't be going home empty handed.

you'll have some hot tea and snacks while you walk through some instructions,

then you'll get some safety gear, split off with a guide, and head into the forest.

Once you start, you'll see little shroomies

everywhere, but your guide will help you know,

which ones are worth bringing back and which ones you should leave.

This felt like a scavenger hunt and I was seriously smiling the entire time.

Every time someone in our group found one on their own,

Even as Angela was cooking up our lunch, we couldn't stop searching along the path.

But once our hot soup was ready, we dove in. The soup had mushrooms, of course.

And seafood that Angela had harvested herself. When they said lunch was included,

I did not expect it to be this gourmet. After lunch,

mushrooms so you can carry on with your foraging knowledge.

And since you'll have a bag of mushrooms going home with you,

Angela will give you lots of tips for how to cook and preserve your goods.

Let’s be treasure hunters for a day! This is the Stonerose Fossil Site in Republic. This is such an incredible way to literally dig up pieces of history in our very own home state!

• First thing’s first, check in at the interpretive center to pay, learn the rules,and get your tools: https://stonerosefossil.org 🔎
• Admission is $18 for the whole day! There are discounts for entire families and students. 👩‍🎓
• We were allowed to bring our pup! She just needed to be on a leash! 🐶
• As far as tools, all you need is a hammer and a chisel! They’re only a couple bucks each to rent, and you can bring your own if you have them! 🔨⚒️
• Once you’re checked in and you have your “admission sticker” (a red sticker you just put on your shirt), you’re good to go! 🟥
• The fossil site is just a short drive away from the interpretive center. There are signs to follow! 🚗

💪 Pro tips
• Fossils come in all shapes and sizes! Be patient when you’re searching for rocks and chipping away! 🦴
• No dinosaur bones here!!! Mostly plants and insects! 🦖🐞🌿
• You’re allowed to keep three fossils per person! Once you bring everything to the interpretive center at the end, pick out the ones you’d like and they keep the extra! (Unless you find something really special like Britt!) 😱
• Check the weather! It was HOT for us! We used a lot of sunscreen and even a spray bottle with water to cool down. ☀️☀️☀️
• Close-toed are a must! 🥾

Dig up history!

This is the Stonerose Fossil Site over in Republic.

This is such an incredible way to literally dig up

pieces of history in our very own home state.

You'll want to start by checking in at the Interpretive Center.

This is where they'll explain to you how it works,

then you'll head over to the site just a few minutes away and get to work.

They give you some tips on how to find the best rocks,

This took a lot of patience and chipping,

but the treasures we were able to find inside are awesome.

You have to take your fossils back at the end,

Mine ended up being Umbrella Pine and Dawn Redwood.

There are very rare cases where if you find something super unique,

they actually have to keep it for further analysis.

This is how we did a half day trip to Whitby Island,

and it was a quick 20 minute ride over to Whitby,

feeling the breeze and taking in the views.

the drive through the open fields and landscaped roads was so calming.

Our first stop was Fort Casey State Park.

It was a perfect mix of history and scenery.

and the cliffs overlooking the water there are breathtaking.

Definitely one of those spots where you just want to pause and take it all in.

stopped at Little Red Hen Bakery for some sweet treats,

and here you really get the vibe of a small town island life.

It was such a simple but perfect half-day trip.

A quick but rewarding hike just 45 minutes from Seattle. About 5.3 miles round-trip with a 1,460 foot elevation gain & a steady climb, ending in panoramic views of Rattlesnake Lake and the Cascade Mountains.

Hike the Rattlesnake Ledge Trail for stunning views of Rattlesnake Lake and the Cascades. Enjoy a rewarding, moderately challenging climb just outside North Bend.

Reach the Rattlesnake Ledge 

Battlesnake Ledge hike was on our list for quite a while,

also because it's one of Washington's most popular hikes and for good reason.

The hike is about 4 miles round trip with a steady climb.

That's challenging but doable for most people.

Thankful that I had been going to the gym regularly,

which is why I could do it without losing it completely.

It makes you forget about the world for a moment.

This is why people come here over and over again.

They have this space upstairs which is a thoughtful curation of art,

They've turned it into this cozy hideaway where you

want to sit with friends and stay for hours.
